Alan Pardew sends message to Tottenham about Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur's Premier League title challenge suffered what should be a fatal blow on Friday night with a 1-0 defeat to West Ham United.

Manuel Lanzini's scrappy second-half goal gave the Hammers a rare win and left Spurs four points behind leaders Chelsea with only three games left.

"It was already going to be hard before, so now it's even harder. I'm very proud. It's so hard sometimes to keep your level".

As they had done for most of the game, the Hammers nullified every attempt by Tottenham to breach their defence after that, and could have won by a bigger margin had they been more clinical. After taking seven points from three matches, Paul Clement's side will hope to carry on their good run, while Palace also remain in danger.

Despite closing in on the league title, the west London outfit can only claim second place in the mini-league as those defeat at White Hart Lane as well as the shock home loss by Palace last month has ultimately cost them top spot.

The Spurs players looked disconsolate as they trudged off the pitch, their heads bowed, while their West Ham counterparts - and the home fans - took great delight in harming their neighbours' title ambitions. They had nine wins in a row, you have to play really well.

Midway through the second half, in what was West Ham's first attack, Lanzini scored after some scrappy, goalmouth pinball.

West Ham has struggled with injuries all season long, and that's no different here, as Andy Carroll and Arthur Makuatsu are doubts, while Michail Antonio is out for sure. We miss a little bit of fluidity to play in possession and move the ball quick and try to find the space and break them down.

Speaking after the match, Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino said: "We are feeling disappointed".

"It wasn't the same performance we played last week".

Whether that will be enough to spare boss Slaven Bilic from the sack remains to be seen amid reports his job could be in danger.

"At this stage of the season it's the same for every team - we're all exhausted physically, mentally".
