GUEST VIEW: Congress is reforming health care

Last week the Republican-led House of Representatives passed their so-called "health care" bill but it is actually one of the largest transfers of wealth from the poor to the rich in US history.

So what exactly were they celebrating?

Until lawmakers know the full costs of the legislation, they can't make substantial changes to it.

Manchin did note that the bill doesn't seem to be moving quickly through the Senate. But they needed a victory and this was the best they could do.

56 percent of Americans disapprove of the GOP's health care plan, the American Health Care Act; 21 percent approve. "They were passing a tax cut".

Eight years ago the Democratic Party was pushing a health care bill of its own, promising a new era for health care in America.

Trump's tax reform plan - which still lacks key policy details - is opposed by 52% to 30% of American voters. And, of course, they got their vote to repeal Obamacare (again). It's a political loser from the get-go.

The members of Vermont's congressional delegation issued the following statements on the passage of the American Health Care Act, which passed the House of Representatives last week. That burden now belongs to President Trump and Republicans. Today, I voted to repeal and replace Obamacare, just as the American people asked for on Election Day. "Make no mistake about it", said Trump. Some have criticized that measure's cuts in the Medicaid program for poor and disabled people, the federal subsidies that would leave many consumers with higher out-of-pocket costs and the estimated 24 million people who'd lose coverage.

"As far as I'm concerned, your premiums are going to come down", stated Trump after the House passed their bill. It really has nothing to do with health care.

Those with pre-existing conditions could be thrown into high risk pools with lifetime coverage limits, higher insurance premiums and longer wait times. Finally, the House bill was passed without a final official cost or coverage estimate from CBO and may contain provisions that violate the Senate's rules regarding the privileged reconciliation process. They will not, however. They don't think we're citizens with obligations to one another.

During last year's campaign, Trump paid lip service to improving the USA health care system.

"T$3 here is no Obamacare, it's dead".

The Affordable Care Act has failed in its promises to the American people.

"Oklahoma has been especially hit hard by Obamacare", Cole said. Trump has declared it dead. If that catches on, 2018 might be a good year for Democrats after all.

They seem to have overlooked that Obamacare has retained indirectly some consideration for health status. Republicans will now be responsible for rising insurance premiums and deductibles.
