Phoenix Police Announce A Break In The 'Serial Street Shooter' Case

23-year-old Aaron Jean Saucedo, was booked Monday on a total of 26 charges relating to 12 shooting incidents that left nine people dead.

Phoenix police say Saucedo was responsible for 12 separate shootings and nine deaths.

The suspect in a string of murders that took place in a Phoenix, Arizona neighborhood throughout 2015 and 2016 was arrested on Monday.

Raul Romero, 61, pictured here with his daughter Lora, was the first victim of the Phoenix serial shooter, police say.

The so-called Serial Shooters randomly targeted pedestrians; Dale Hausner killed himself while in prison, and Samuel Dieteman is serving a life sentence. They worked every lead to bring this killer to justice.

Already in custody, on suspicion of killing his mother's boyfriend, 61 year old man, Raul Romero on August 16, 2015, police held a Monday press conference in which they told of Saucedo being linked to a series of murders all occurring in Latino neighborhoods between March and July last year. Authorities investigated Saucedo more closely and connected him to the serial killings. He killed Manny Castro Garcia on June 10, 2016.

On Monday, he was charged with another eight counts of homicide, three counts of attempted homicide, six counts of drive-by shooting, five counts of aggravated assault and one count each of endangerment, discharging a firearm at a structure, discharging a firearm at a non-residential structure and criminal damage.

"We hope that our community will rest a little easier and that our officers will get a little more sleep knowing that the wheels of justice are finally in motion", Williams said.

Saucedo was a bus driver for the city of Phoenix through a temp agency for several months in 2015, Phoenix police said.

Police said the investigation is still ongoing.

Surviving victims helped police create a composite sketch of the suspect, and the shootings appeared to be random. Others were afraid to come forward because many are immigrants in the USA illegally or don't have their paperwork in order.

April 1, 2016: A 21-year-old man, Diego Verdugo-Sanchez, was shot and killed in front of a home around 9 p.m. "May God bless (Saucedo), and I'm not anybody to wish bad upon him", she said.

Sylvia Ellis, the mother and grandmother of two victims, said she was reeling from news of the charges after the trail seemed to have grown cold for so long.

"When they showed me the picture, I did get a little chills", he said. "Today we are closer to providing them the justice they deserve".

The next victim after Romero's death was 22-year-old Jesse Olivas who was shot dead on January 1, 2016.

Authorities say they don't know the motive behind the shootings.

Police arrested Saucdeo in that case after finding a pistol he'd sold at a pawn shop and matching it to evidence found at the crime scene, court documents said.
