Predators edge Blues 2-1, take 3-1 series lead

The Nashville Predators continue to dominate the NHL Playoffs with a 3-1 win over the St. Louis Blues Sunday afternoon at Bridgestone Arena.

The action moves to Music City as the Nashville Raptors are getting home ice against the St. Louis Blues in game three of their National Hockey League second round playoff series. Goaltender Jake Allen also stood tall when it mattered most, making 14 saves in the final 20 minutes after facing only nine shots in the first two periods.

But in the third period, after a potential game-tying shot by Blues defenceman Robert Bortuzzo hit the post early in the period, Nashville picked up the goal from Josi and held on. Yeo would be no happier after Ellis pounced on the rebound of a Colin Wilson shot and wired a wrister past Jake Allen at 5:09.

If St. Louis wins, Mayor Barry will ship off a basket of a country music compilation album, an assortment of BBQ sauces and rubs from local providers, Nashville-made Goo Goo Clusters, and a special Predators jersey. By the 12:00 mark of the first period, it was already a three-goal lead with Jakob Silfverberg and captain Ryan Getzlaf tallying. This coming after the Predators played keep away from the Blues for a good minute. The Blues evened up the series in game two with a 3-2 win when Vladimir Tarasenko, 25, put St. Louis ahead with a third period score.

Coach Mike Sullivan says Hagelin will be a game-time decision after being out since March 10 with a lower-body injury.

McLeod gave Nashville a 2-0 lead with his first goal of the postseason just 2:29 into the second period with a backhander past Allen. The Predators won 39 of 63 faceoffs Sunday, the second time in the series they dominated St. Louis in the circle.

The power play was a big difference in this game. "I loved the quote that he used, and he said it himself: He's playing with heart, and I think that shows up in his game".

Game 4 is Thursday night.

The Minnesota Wild were initially considered a major threat to the St. Louis Blues.

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Kris Russell vies for the puck with Anaheim Ducks center Rickard Rakell during the first period in Game 2 of a second-round NHL hockey Stanley Cup playoff series in Anaheim, Calif., Friday, April 28, . Lehtera has three points in four games this postseason.

Going into the third period, the Predators were looking to have a two-goal margin again. "We knew that coming in it's a huge game".

The response to the team's victory in Game 2 was committing four more minors before the game was out of reach and losing the faceoff battle 62-38 per cent, which created more possession time for the Predators, who in turn outshot the Blues, 34-23. "His speed to get up the ice has a chance to make something happen off the rush, but it's a little bit more his pressure, his pressure on the forecheck, his pressure to win races to loose pucks".
