Union: Up to 40K walking off the job at AT&T this weekend

The is the first time AT&T workers have gone on strike, the release stated.

The weekend strike is being held across 36 states and the District of Columbia and involves an estimated 40,000 union members.

The store at Shaw and Blackstone avenues closed its doors at noon but then reopened with a sign on the door that the store would be open from 1 p.m.to 7 p.m. They argue that AT&T is cutting customer service jobs and sacrificing the quality to save money. We've seen decrease on commission, we've seen decrease on pay but our health care goes up.

Tens of thousands of members of the Communications Workers of America at AT&T, including about 400 in San Francisco, walked off their jobs Friday, union officials said. Others are employed in call centers spread out across the country.

"AT&T doesn't want to bargain with us, so we're taking a stand". CWA represents about 150,000 of them.

Some 17,000 other potential protesters come from AT&T's home phone, internet and cable division in California, Nevada and CT.

AT&T Mobility is one of the single largest retail workforces with union representation anywhere in the U.S. numerous 100,000 members are recently organized after CWA scored victories under "bargaining to organize" agreements with the company, which allowed for speedy representation elections.

Workers are fighting for affordable benefits, fair wages, job security and outsourcing, according to CWA.

With over 200,000 employees in the U.S, AT&T is the country's largest telecom company.

Union leaders said they have been without a contract since February.

"This may be the largest retail strike in USA history". The strike is only scheduled to last three days. The company reported $13 billion in profits in the same year.

Workers had issued an ultimatum, giving company executives until 3 p.m. ET on Friday to present serious proposals.

Given the current controversy surrounding the administration, it's possible that Trump will keep his distance. This company made $13 billion in profits a year ago, but is now denying its workers, who are making this company so profitable, the contract they deserve. Former President George W. Bush invoked Taft-Hartley against the West Coast longshore union in 2002.
