Amazon Prime Video Coming to Apple TV Later This Year

Apple's (AAPL) annual Worldwide Developer Conference kicked off Monday and CEO Tim Cook confirmed rumors that Amazon's (AMZN) Prime video app is officially arriving on Apple TV "later this year".

Last year, Apple added third-party apps support to Siri.

The app will give Amazon Prime subscribers the ability to watch Prime video content such as TV shows and movies while using an Apple TV. Apple Pay users will be able to make and receive payments with friends and family.

Streaming is not the only example where a spat between Apple and Amazon limited customer choice. We can expect to see updates to macOS and iOS as usual.

Tim Cook said little more than Prime is coming later in the year.

Apple unveiled the new products at its WWDC developers event earlier in the week.

Currently, watching Prime Video on an Apple TV requires you to sling it from the Prime Video app on an iPhone or iPad via AirPlay, a clunky-at-best solution that doesn't always work well and (from my own personal experience) reduces video quality relative to a direct stream. The company says this new computer will ship with an 8-core Xeon processor, with configurations that scale up to an 18-core Xeon processor, 5K display, and an all-new AMD Radeon Vega graphics GPU.

The developer preview of watchOS available today with free upgrades coming for users in the fall.

MacOS High Sierra is the successor to Sierra, announced past year.

Retailing for $4,999, the newest member of Apple's iMac family, the iMac Pro, will be available in December, and promises to be the "most powerful Mac ever". The Apple App Store is also getting a makeover, with a designated tab just for games.

Taking to Twitter, the online retail giant turn streaming supplier stated: "You asked (a lot)".

The arrival of a Prime Video app on the Apple TV would cap off nearly two years of feuding between the companies. Live Photos - the moving pictures Apple introduced back in 2015 - are getting a few new editing options, including a looping one that seems highly reminiscent of our dearly departed Vine. However, this new announcement points towards a new deal between the two.
