Arab nations add names to terror list amid Qatar dispute

The states accused Qatar of supporting terrorist groups, particularly the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist movement, as well as of interfering in other countries' domestic affairs. That's created chaos across the Sunni Gulf nations, whose citizens regularly intermarry and conduct business across countries sharing long historic and cultural bonds.

An official source said the hotline would take the humanitarian circumstances of these families into consideration and take the appropariate measures to help them, reported state news agency Wam.

But in language common to the three countries' announcements, the UAE said it drew a distinction between Qatar's government and its people. "Those residents have the complete freedom in staying in the state of Qatar in accordance with the laws and regulations adopted by the state".

The escalating crisis in the Persian Gulf erupted this week when Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain cut diplomatic ties with Qatar.

Its flag carrier Qatar Airways now flies increasingly over Iran and Turkey after being blocked elsewhere over the Middle East.

Kuwait's ruling emir has shuttled between countries trying to mediate an end to the crisis.

In a wide-ranging interview Thursday with the AP, Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani repeatedly denied that his country funded extremists and he rejected the idea of shutting down its Al-Jazeera satellite news network, something suggested as a demand of the Arab nations. So far, Turkey has not directly criticised Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia has closed Qatar's only land border, and Iran, as the closest country to Qatar, can export food products to the Arab country through a 12-hour shipping lane, he added. In recent days, Turkey has stepped in to supply supermarkets there with eggs and milk after anxious residents cleaned out shelves in the early days of the crisis.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has approved legislation for increased military cooperation with Qatar, including a deal for the deployment of Turkish troops there. Qatar expressed regret over this decision calling it groundless.
