Braves place Bartolo Colon on the disabled list

The Braves scored a first-inning run when Brandon Phillips doubled and scored on a single to left field by Nick Markakis.

The Braves placed struggling right-hander Bartolo Colon on the 10-day disabled list with a strain in his left side.

By winning their first two games at SunTrust Park, Philadelphia took back-to-back road wins for the first time this season.

Atlanta is in the middle of a four-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Aaron Altherr has been moved to third in the batting order on Monday versus the Atlanta Braves.

There was some question about whether Colon might be released after his extended lack of success.

Up next Jerad Eickhoff (0-6, 5.13) looks to get things turned around Wednesday night against Atlanta right-hander Mike Foltynewicz (3-5, 3.90). Bowman adds that Snitker said it's too soon for Kris Medlen to considered for a start. "I don't think it's a huge issue, but I kind of feel there's something going on that's not allowing him to perform the way he's capable".

The Braves did not immediately announce a corresponding roster move.

He retired eight consecutive batters after giving up a first-inning run and retired the final 11 batters he faced.

Matt Kemp and Matt Adams had back-to-back singles with one out against Hector Neris. He is 2-3 and his ERA is 3.18. It was the first home run and the first earned run allowed by Garcia since May 21.

The Braves brought in Colon, R.A. Dickey and Jaime Garcia over the winter to help stabilize a starting staff that was largely made up of young pitchers who struggled in 2016.

Colon has allowed five or more runs in six of his 12 starts. He struck out seven and walked two.

Eickhoff's last start wasn't good.

Will the Phillies and Braves play over the betting total tonight at 7:35PM ET?

Nola answered the challenge with eight strong innings Tuesday in the Phillies' 3-1 win over the Braves.
