Conor McGregor bout set in August

Undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather and mixed martial arts champion Conor McGregor, two of the most popular athletes in their respective sports, have agreed to a crossover fight in the ring on August 26 in Las Vegas.

McGregor, meanwhile, posted a photo with the caption, "The fight is on", with a photo of himself and his opponent's father, Floyd Mayweather Sr.

Mayweather, who retired in 2015 with an unbeaten record of 49-0, and UFC lightweight champion McGregor will clash in a 12-round fight in Las Vegas on August 26 after teasing the event for almost a year.

The fight of the century is officially happening.

Mayweather, however, simply went for a promotional poster video of the event, with the tagline: "It's official".

The two fighters had gone back and forth for almost a year on the showdown, each demanding $100 million (78.4 million pounds) for the fight.

"Nobody is bummed out about this deal", UFC president Dana White said.

"Everybody's happy", said Mayweather's adviser, Leonard Ellerbe.

The relentless reaction Leonard Ellerbe has received from fans since the Mayweather-McGregor drama began late past year made the Mayweather Promotions CEO realize just how huge the event could become. "He is absolutely, 100 percent positive that he wins this fight". It has also intrigued some in boxing, though most dismiss McGregor's chances under boxing rules against one of the greatest defensive fighters in history.

McGregor, an exciting striker with knockout power, has made a habit of taking the UFC by storm since he arrived on the scene, becoming the first UFC fighter ever to win championship belts in two different divisions simultaneously. The reigning UFC lightweight champion, who is the only UFC fighter in history to hold two titles concurrently, has not fought since defeating Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 on November 12 in NY.

A win for Mayweather would move him ahead of former heavyweight great Rocky Marciano, who also retired with a flawless 49-0 career record.

"As with every Mayweather and McGregor fight part of the appeal is the spectacle and outsize personalities who are participating in it", Espinoza said. "We've actually tapped into the audience that really doesn't follow either sport".
