London Bridge attacker tried to rent larger truck

A 33-year old London man has given a horrific account on how he single-handedly dealt with a chain of terrorists during the London Bridge Terror Attack.

LONDON-One of the three men who mowed down pedestrians in a van and stabbed others in central London last weekend had initially tried to rent a larger vehicle, police said Saturday.

The trio wore leather belts attached to the vests, with three water bottles covered in tape attacked to them.

"He was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000", police said in a statement.

All eight people killed by the terrorists have been identified.

Detectives investigating the London Bridge attack have made their 20th arrest.

Although the Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the London Bridge attack, police have said there was no evidence that the perpetrators - Pakistani-born Briton Khuram Butt, Italian Youssef Zaghba and Rachid Redouane, who had links to Libya, Morocco and Ireland - were directed by anyone else, either in Britain or overseas.

People in London are being urged to visit the capital's bars and restaurants on Saturday night, one week on from the London Bridge and Borough Market attack, in a show of "unity and resilience".

At about 1730 GMT, the men drove to pick up the van before heading to Zaghba's home in east London.

Headteacher at Al-Noor Primary School, Green Lane, Goodmayes, Someera Butt is shaken and shocked by the London Bridge terror attacks but confirmed that pupils at her school had not been targeted.

A huge investigation was launched in the wake of the attack, with 18 people arrested so far.

"What happened in the last 12 weeks with the attacks in London and Manchester and with the five plots which we have thwarted, which had murderous intent and we stopped them, has only given my officers, my staff, the Metropolitan Police, more resolve, more determination", she said.

Officers said it appeared the men originally planned a rampage that echoed a similar atrocity in Nice, France. Dean Haydon - head of the London police department's Counter Terrorism Command - asked for help identifying the origin of the pink knives, and called on the public to report anything suspicious.

Inside the van, they found 13 supposed Molotov cocktails - made from wine bottles and an apparent flammable liquid - and two blow torches, according to the news station.

Petrol bombs were also found littered alongside the van used to run down victims on London Bridge, suggesting the plot was meant to be more destructive.

Investigators also found gravel bags, which also could have been part of their cover story, or may have been "used to weigh the vehicle down", making it heavier and giving it more force.

Haydon described the pink knives as "pretty unusual" and appealed for anyone with information about where they came from to contact police.

The men jumped out clutching the ceramic kitchen knives.

But Haydon said "there was no evidence uncovered of any attack-planning in relation to him". He also remains in police custody.

She said: "I would suggest to people that London is one of the safest cities on the planet but of course we want you to be vigilant".
