May's top aides resign after UK election fiasco

British newspapers summed it up in a word: Mayhem.

The error is hugely embarrassing for May who ran her election campaign on the basis that only she is capable of negotiating Brexit.

Furthermore, Tory party leaders are said to be unhappy over having to resort to working with the DUP, who are social conservatives and are opposite to the more liberal Tories, to form the new government. Meanwhile, the Labour Party started the campaign looking as if it was maybe facing some sort of existential disaster.

The final result was announced nearly 24 hours after polls closed.

In a television interview Sunday with Sky News at Downing Street, May say she would help deliver the "stability and certainty" the country needs during the reshuffling.

May is expected to form the new government after talks with the DUP next week, only days before the country's historic Brexit negotiations with the European Union start on June 19.

Without a majority, she could be forced to seek consensus on the approach she takes, potentially by performing a U-turn on single market membership and protecting the economy at the expense of new immigration controls.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May was clinging to power by her fingernails on Sunday after losing her parliamentary majority in last Thursday's election, as an agreement with the minority Democratic Unionist Party that would keep the Conservatives in power was still not finalized.

May's party won 318 seats, eight short of the 326 they needed for an outright majority. Conservative MPs are publicly airing their anger, some calling for her ouster and others demanding radical change in her style of leadership. We should remember this was, as you said at the beginning, a snap election.

The new arithmetic of the House of Commons will also makes Brexit negotiations more hard. He's a professor of political science at Cardiff University in Wales.

Wollaston also said she was opposed to the death penalty and creationism being taught in schools, policies that have been supported by some DUP politicians.

Most of the MPs elected last week want to avoid a so-called "hard Brexit", pro-EU politicians claim.

In the Conservative Party, recriminations were immediate and stinging. From Labour? And is she likely to?

"I don't think Theresa May and this government have any credibility", Corbyn told the Sunday Mirror, predicting that there could be another election within months.

"Honestly, it feels nearly like she is nearly not aware of what has happened in the last 24 hours", Conservative lawmaker Heidi Allen told LBC radio. So this election has actually left not only her but the United Kingdom as a whole looking like it's in a much weaker position.

The question is who won and who lost in the election... that is still being widely debated. "There's an very bad lot of issues around Brexit that need to be discussed with other parties", she told Sky News on Saturday.

"There's clearly not going to be another election with Theresa May at the head".

"There has been a lot of hyperbole about the DUP since Thursday", Foster said. "They didn't want to leave the EU".

"It's important to make that clear", he said.

"Nearly 13 million people voted for us to do it. This was the first time I voted".

But after a poor campaign and an unexpectedly stiff challenge from Labour, her plan went disastrously wrong.

"I could not care less what people get up to in terms of their sexuality, that's not a matter for me, when it becomes a matter for me is when people try to redefine marriage".

There are more uncertainties than certainties.

For many British voters, the feeling after the country's third major vote in as many years was weariness. "May fights to remain PM", said the front page of the Daily Telegraph, while the Times of London said: "May stares into the abyss".
