Tillerson: Trump put 'pressure' on Netanyahu and Abbas to revive negotiations

President Abbas assures me he is ready to work toward that goal in good faith, and Prime Minister Netanyahu has promised the same.

"Only under our sovereignty Jerusalem had become an island of tolerance", Netanyahu said.

British authorities say that at this point, they believe only one suicide attacker detonated himself at the Manchester Arena in Northern England, where Monday night's bombing took place after a concert by Ariana Grande.

Mashni pointed out there will be significant opposition to any land swap from hardliners in Palestine and Israel, making any long term agreement unlikely.

"So many young, beautiful, innocent people living and enjoying their lives murdered by evil losers", Trump said after meeting Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas in Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank.

He drew more applause when he said: "Iran's leaders routinely call for Israel's destruction".

Abbas underlined that the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis was not based on religion.

However, in a statement issued by his office, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hastened to dispel any doubts on the matter, in anticipation of any objections by his right-wing government.

Prior to his trip to Israel, Trump visited Saudi Arabia on Sunday where he met up with Muslim leaders.

"As the president said during his visit to Yad Vashem, reiterating the powerful message he gave to the World Jewish Congress last month, the State of Israel is a beacon of light that arose from the darkest depths of the Holocaust and the attempts to wipe out the Jewish people".

"You noted so succinctly that common dangers are turning former enemies into partners, and that is where we see something new and potentially very promising", Netanyahu told Trump at the time, thanking him for becoming the first sitting American president to visit the Western Wall.

Abbas reiterated his call for a two-state solution to the conflict, including an independent Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital. In Bethlehem Mr Trump lectured President Abbas that "peace can never take root in an environment where violence is tolerated, funded and even rewarded".

"Clinton tried, Bush tried, Obama tried". The U.S president also stated that he was hopeful about his country and Israel working together towards achieving peace, prosperity and harmony. President Trump again stressed his belief that peace between Israelis and Palestinians is possible.

Without naming anyone in particular, Rubin tells OneNewsNow that Trump is getting "bad advice" from his advisers about moving the USA embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem - a campaign promise that has yet to be realized. The most high-profile moment of Trump's stay in Jerusalem was his visit to the Western Wall, one of the holiest sites in Judaism.
