Meanwhile, in Assam, 60,000 people are affected in districts such as Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Barpeta, Biswanath, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Morigaon, Golaghat and Nagaon due to floods.

Authorities found the bodies in two villages in hard-hit Banaskantha district, Gujarat, as floodwaters receded, said assistant superintendent of police Aksharaj Makwana.




The northern districts of Banaskantha, Sabarkantha and Patan were flooded after 36 hours of incessant rain.

Worsening floods killed another eight people in 24 hours in India's Gujarat state as rescue teams raced Tuesday to reach hundreds of people marooned in stricken towns and villages.

More than 30,000 people have been relocated from low-lying areas in Gujarat while people stranded on rooftops and trees were evacuated in Rajasthan on Tuesday. "We are trying to restore electricity to these villages on a war-footing", said Pankaj Kumar, Principal Secretary.

The MeT Centre here predicted that heavy to very heavy rain would occur at several places in Gujarat during the next two days.

Relief camps have been set up and the NDRF teams have been sent to the affected states for rescue operations.
