Trump administration unveils new Iran sanctions

The US administration of President Donald Trump reluctantly announced that Iran is complying with the nuclear agreement after meeting with top security advisors.

The State Department on Monday notified Congress, as it was required to do, that it was recertifying Iran's compliance with the worldwide agreement.

Mr. Trump has criticized the nuclear accord as a "horrible" deal and pledged during the campaign previous year to withdraw the US from the pact.

Washington's sanctions announcement came hours after the Iranian parliament voted overwhelmingly for $520 million in new funding for the country's missile program and Revolutionary Guards' foreign operations wing, the Quds Force, to combat what it said was Washington's "adventurism" in the Middle East.

Officials said Iran has violated the "spirit" of the nuclear deal by developing non-nuclear ballistic missiles and supporting terrorism.

The Iranian parliament introduced the bill as a response to the U.S. Senate's bill targeting Russian Federation and Iran with new sanctions, which was passed on June 15 and still awaits a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Chief Political Correspondent David Brody says Trump wants out of the Iran Nuclear Deal, but the timing isn't right.

The Senate bill, S. 722, which was later merged with a Russian Federation sanctions bill, has so far stalled in the House over concerns from the energy industry that a provision could block US companies from lucrative foreign oil deals.

"Never, ever, ever, in my life have I seen any transaction so incompetently negotiated as our deal with Iran", Trump said September 9, 2015, during a Tea Party rally.

The White House officials explained that they would strengthen their relationships with their allies in the Middle East in order to stop Iran from potentially skirting parts of the deal.

The Trump administration is likely to re-certify Iran's compliance with the nuclear weapons agreement, keeping a deal in place which the president has harshly criticized.

"We certainly hope that if we don't agree with each other about the situation in Yemen or about the situation in Syria we can still work with each other in order to bring those situations to an end", said Zarif, who was in NY for a high-level United Nations meeting on sustainable development.

"There are no communications between myself and Secretary Tillerson", Zarif said at an event at the Council on Foreign Relations. What's more, the US intelligence community feels that Iran is pushing the edges, but overall is in compliance Iran deal.

The deal imposes strict global monitoring of Iran's nuclear program in exchange for relief from economic sanctions.

Under the agreement, Iran is not permitted to enrich or purchase nuclear materials to weapons grade quality, nor may it arm its ballistic missiles with nuclear payloads.

A steely view of Iran binds Trump's national security team, which at times appear to have little else in common.

Bagheri also said the U.S. should be wary of imposing new sanctions on the country to stop its missile program.

For now, the Trump administration will be working with allies in Europe, including Britain and France, to get tougher on ensuring Iran isn't cheating on the prohibitions against enrichment of nuclear material and other provisions. The Republican has called the deal "terrible" and "horrible".

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Monday ahead of the USA announcement that Iran has received "contradictory signals" from the Trump administration.
