AMD officially launches Radeon RX Vega for elite gamers

We're more than excited to have seen the AMD Radeon RX Vega, but there's also another exciting facet to this launch, because the AMD Radeon RX Vega also comes with a mysterious accessory which has been dubbed the "Holocube". The Radeon Vega GPUs are finally here, and AMD is launching not one, not two, but three of them in a new offensive against Nvidia's utter dominance. This graphics card will have 12.66 TFLOPS, 64 compute units, 4,096 stream processors, and 8GB of advanced HBM2 memory, 484GBps of bandwidth and will be clocked at 1,247MHz with a boost clock of 1,546MHz. All the graphics cards are having numbers after their name because that is the number of card's Compute Units. The Radeon RX Vega 56 entry level graphics card, meanwhile, has been pegged at $399 (around £350). Vega 10 is having around 12.5 billion transistors and is manufactured using a 14nm FinFET LPP process. According to AMD the 17.8 release is the first driver to be compatible with the Vega GPU Architecture. There are also 256 texture units on the chip, with 64 render back-ends that are linked to 4MB of L2 cache.

Not being the fastest GPU on earth is not really a big problem for the RX Vega 64, but arriving over a year after its intended competition and doing so with almost twice the power draw certainly decreases the allure of the brand new GPU. The GTX 1080 is clocked at 1,607 MHz and boosted up to 1,733 MHz. The WX 9100 has 16 GB of 945 MHz HBM2 ECC memory on the same package as the GPU core, providing up to 484 GB/s of bandwidth.

In brief, AMD unveiled the details of a new "x86" microprocessor called the "Ryzen Threadripper", with 8, 12 or 16 "CPU cores" per chip, created to be its highest-performing desktop microprocessor. The air cooled model has a base frequency 1247MHz and boost frequency of 1546MHz. Furthermore the power consumption of the new vega graphics cards is actually a lot more than that of the Nvidia's cards so will cost you more in electricity bills in the long run. The RX Vega is the next chapter in this battle back to the top. The packs will also include a $200 discount on Samsung's 34-inch curved ultrawide FreeSync monitor, and a $100 discount on some Ryzen 7 1800X processor and 370X motherboard combos. The Frontier cards were aimed at a prosumer market in between the gaming-focused RX Vega and the true professional cards with certified drivers and similar perks. Both models are the air-cooled versions, but there will be a higher-clocked, liquid-chilled RX Vega 64 option, likely to cost $599.
