Chelsea ready to test Arsenal's resolve with £35m bid for Oxlade-Chamberlain

The versatile star has just one year remaining on his current contract at the Emirates and is still no nearer to agreeing terms over an extension.

Chelsea have increased their offer for Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, according to the Daily Star.

With Wenger still not quite convinced of his ability in midfield, Oxlade-Chamberlain has become a bit of a utility player for Arsenal, with the England worldwide impressing of late in a wing-back position, be that down the right or the left.

The Daily Star has revealed that the Blues have raised their bid after they initially offered £25 million for the 23-year-old.

Antonio Conte is keen to bolster his squad further before the transfer window ends after a disappointing pre-season was followed by a penalty shoot-out defeat in the Community Shield.

Oxlade-Chamberlain moved to the Emirates Stadium from Southampton in the summer of 2011 and has since racked up nearly two hundred appearances in all competitions, scoring twenty goals.

"I think in his career he had some bad moments because he had some small injuries", he told reporters. He will continute to move up beecause the potential is there. But the Ox is supposedly on Conte's shortlist, and he's a player who would make a ton of sense as a much-needed addition to the squad.

Whether Arsenal will resist a huge bid for a player who is out of contract next summer and has rarely been a regular starter remains to be seen. Today he is conscious of his qualities.
